1.Hear First we are instructed that we must hear the word. In Romans chapter 10 and verse 17 we read:
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
2. Believe Secondly we are told that we must believe the message we have heard and in Jesus Christ. In John chapter 3 and verse 16 we read:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
3. Repent Thirdly we are instructed that we are to repent of our previous sins. Repenting is essentially feeling regret or remorse regarding your previous actions and striving to avoid such sins in the future. Acts chapter 17 and verse 30 states:
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
4. Confess Next we see outlined in God’s Word that we should confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. Upon making this confession you must sincerely believe in it. Romans chapter 10 and in verses 9-10 we read:
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
5. Be Baptized Fifthly we are instructed to be baptized. When you are baptized you are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Once baptized, all your previous sins and transgressions are forgiven and from that point forward you are instructed to live your life for God and not for the world. This does not translate that you are expected to live your life without ever sinning again. However, you are to strive to live your life according to what God has commanded in His word. After you are baptized, the sins you commit in the future will be covered through Jesus’ shed blood. Jesus died and shed His blood on the cross so that our sins would be forgiven. In Acts 2:38 we read:
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
6. Live Faithful Lastly it should once again be noted that after baptism we are told to live our life faithful to God. Once baptized it is incorrect to think that you are automatically saved and that you can live the rest of your life without serving Him. In Revelation chapter 2 and verse 10 it states:
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
How Do I Become a Christian?
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
